I finally got my hands on a physical device running RouterOS, the RB750Gr2, and I'm having some issues with MTU beyond 1500. The issue acts and feels like there is a L2-link somewhere that discards everything right above 1500bytes per frame. By setting MTU on every possible interface and VLAN to 4030 I'm able to find a limit with ping6: ping6 -c 1 -M do -s 1456 mikrotik-ipv6-addr The IPv6 address is set on a VLAN-interface. From this we can deduct that I'm able to pass 1504bytes (1456 payload +8 icmp +40 IPv6) trough the L2-domain to the RB750Gr2.
I have yet to eliminate two switches from the equation but I have a hunch that the CPU-port might be causing the issue. I could not find an option to set the MTU for the CPU-port anywhere either (I might just be blind though). I'm also having a hard time wrapping my brain around the switch and how it's ports appear in RouterOS. Can anybody give me a hand, help me understand the relatioship between RouterOS and the switch device?
